CSA FAQ – Westchester, NY

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS for Westchester, NY CSA Program

What is a CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture)?

Community Supported Agriculture, CSA for short, is a popular way to buy local, seasonal food straight from the farmer who grows it.  A farmer offers a certain number of “shares” of the farm’s bounty, for sale at the beginning of the season. Each week during the designated period, members pick up their pre-purchased weekly box of vegetables. CSA participation provides direct support to small farms and just-picked, delicious produce to our customers.

SustainAbility Farm’s CSA members also have the added privilege of providing support to a community of people with autism and other developmental disabilities who are learning how to make organic / ecological farming part of their life.

What produce will SustainAbility Farm CSA provide this season?

Our selection of produce includes but is not limited to: heirloom tomatoes, onions, lettuce, kale, swiss chard, sweet peas, beans, cucumbers, summer squash, winter squash, beets, carrots, eggplant, broccoli, pac choi, arugula, garlic, sorrel, etc.  Although we are not certified, we have taken the farmer’s pledge and we guarantee that all of our produce is ecologically grown and most of our practices would be considered beyond organic.

A typical SustainAbility CSA box in JULY:

3 cucumbers, 3 zucchini, 2 patty pan squash, 1 bunch oregano, 1 bunch basil, 5 beets, 1 bunch sorrel, 1-2 heads lettuce, 3 onions, 1 bunch kale, 5 radishes, 5 Hakurei turnips.

How much food will I receive each week?
